Reading and Writing Task #13: NPR News Article on Shooting in Dadeville, Alabama

Unfortunately, shootings have become something very common. It’s like shootings are the norm or are normalized to such a capacity that teachers have to be prepared, children don’t feel safe, and parents are scared for their children to not come home. Shootings started in schools but now they’re taking place in more public spaces and expanding locations where they occur. They aren’t being prevented correctly, because if they were, there wouldn’t be 161 shooting in a span of 4 months.

To a capacity, guns have become the leading killer of children. Gun violence keeps increasing since there are no laws of gun safety, no background checks, and no concern for the harm that guns have been been and are causing to many people. Gun violence is due to people wanting to feel safe, but guns are what’s creating fear due to the lack of regulations and background checks. Society is headed to be better if we get this under control but the only time the government listens to “it’s” people, it’s about not getting gun laws. It can be prevented if they just made more regulations and made background checks, but I doubt they will attempt to actually solve the problem because doing background checks on people that want fire arms for unknown reasons is a “violation of rights”. Hopefully one day the government will do what’s right for most of the population, though likely in a time very very very far from today.
